Types of Dreams
Dreams are usually the brain's way of sifting through the day's events during sleep, either to find resolutions to ongoing problems or as a means of release. There are several different types of dreams, the most common being:

Prophetic Dreams
These usually foretell events that may occur sometime in the future, like world events or incidents in one's life. All prophetic dreams are in colour and follow a logical, comprehensible pattern, like a storybook. Feelings of dread or a deep sense of foreboding, which cannot easily be shaken, usually accompanies them.

Release Dreams
These are also sometimes known as Frustration Dreams. These are usually an expression of suppressed emotions, stress, feelings of being unable to change something in one's life, or one's deeper fears. They can appear as a jumbled, nonsensical mess as the brain tries to sift through recurring problems to find a solution.

Recurring Dreams
These are dreams that replay on a regular basis, almost like a movie, but with certain details slightly changed. They usually occur when one has an ongoing problem, to which there seems to be no plausible solution and the brain attempts on reconstructing various scenarios until a solution is found.

Sequel Dreams
These usually occur in story form, playing like a movie chapter by chapter over successive nights until it is finished. In most instances, however, the nightly chapters are jumbled and, at first none of the images may be structured as a story. Only when they are written in a Dream Journal and re-constructed might they make some sense. (Also known as Sequential Dreams, and similar to Recurring Dreams and Prophetic Dreams.)

Lucid Dreaming
This is a semi-conscious state, where the dreamer is still aware of his or her surroundings, but to observers it would appear as though they are in a trance-like sleep. Whenever a person is deep in thought or soundly asleep, sometimes during meditation, the mind wanders and images appear in front of them. The senses are usually heightened, colours are brighter, the images more vivid and certain sounds are clearer. Sometimes, the same types of symbols can be interpreted as in dreams.
